WOUNDEDSPiRiT: FOREVER young

WOUNDEDSPiRiT

WOUNDEDSPiRiT formed in 1989 and paid homage to the decade in which they came to be on their debut, ‘FOREVER young.’

Those who’ve watched the infamous ‘Office’ episode where Ryan started the fire or have ever heard Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” will smile when they push play on FOREVER young as “Fake News” is reminiscent of that frenzied lyrical delivery. Then there’s the title track. Not a cover of Rod Stewart, but Alphaville’s 1984 hit single. While it’s easily recognizable as Jason Kelly’s vocals are as keen as Marian Gold’s, WOUNDEDSPiRiT do their own thing to make it stand out as a revamped version. While there are pieces of the ‘80s sewn into this record, they also keep it modern with the subject matter. “Fake News,” “Higher,” and “STANDUP” all showcase being self-aware in the current political climate. Of course, that’s not all. WOUNDEDSPiRiT also deals out a lot of love with “She Knows” and “Love is By My Side.”

FOREVER young is made up of a few elements. The sounds of the ‘80s are apparent but so are their “woke” views, and matters of the heart. WOUNDEDSPiRiT’s debut album would satisfy those who already have bands like Erasure and Goo Goo Dolls in their collections.
