Rising Star Set to Debut Second Single

Feb. 27, 2022, Frederick, MD — Original music artist Daryltron (Daryl Campbell) is preparing to release his second official music video, the 80’s Soul-inspired breakup song, ‘Our Love Was Strong’. This is a follow up to his well-received debut, My Shows, which shot up to over sixty-one thousand views in just a matter of weeks! Daryltron commented that, in some ways, his upcoming release is a sequel to this…”This is a continuation of the story where, initially, there was a love that was found during the pandemic. Now, with what else is going on in the world, it’s symbolic of a love that’s lost, a loss of innocence.” The video debuts Fri., March 11th at 5 PM on YouTube (the same time as it goes live on Spotify). This is a pretty fair way to look at it…whereas ‘My Shows’ was a bubbly dance track, also very 80s, it was quite a contrast from the melancholy feel of this song, which deals with the pain of an unfaithful lover. Sad electronic piano sounds and synths evoke a gloomy, nighttime walk through the streets of a cold city in 1984. That’s actually the feel it creates; one that Daryltron instinctively captures, as usual, by adding background ambience to it. He mixed in some kind of stark traffic and pedestrian sounds to accentuate this experience. His tracks always take me on a journey. What’s interesting is that he chose to do this song next, with no prior knowledge of the events that were about to unfold in world events.

Nonetheless, loss and change are a big theme right now, and the single definitely captured the current mood. The video even features Daryltron dressed in something akin to funeral garb, symbolic of the death of a love, but could be seen fitting in a number of ways. “I just wanted to do something different than ‘My Shows’, but it’s interesting how it turned out”, he adds. At the time he produced it, it was some years ago, when Daryltron was struggling with addiction. “Addiction, war, the loss of a love…these all have a common theme, and they’re all woven into the fabric of this video somehow, on some level…Just as I was using this song to cope with my pain at the time I wrote it, it can do the same thing again, just in a different way…”

In retrospect, I also find it ironic that where Daryltron typically discusses dark subject matter in a way that’s bright and poppy…here he’s conveying something in a darker style, but by means of doing so, making the light more visible. It’s as if he turned the knob and reversed the spectrum of what he typically does, which is what his intention was all along with this track. He emphasized that he wanted to show he ‘had range’, and be more dimensional…

Daryl

Daryl Campbell was born in Whittier, CA in 1982 to a musical family…His father, being a Pianist and record collector, exposed him to a wide variety of music that was unique to his generation, being influenced by Jazz and 60’s Psychedelia, among other things…This would have a profound shaping of Daryl’s sound, which is somehow retro, yet modern, at the same time…
