Making a playlist – it’s an experience all music lovers share. Putting together a grouping of songs to reflect a mood, a feeling, a season, or event is a universal thing that can be therapeutic for music listeners everywhere. Almondmilkhunni reflects on this form of self-therapy in her new track “playlist” – out August 4th. “playlist” is the final single release from Almondmilkhunni (Brandy Schwechler), ahead of her upcoming debut album, Enjoy the Ride”. Following the recent releases of her baddie anthems, “MISS U”, “fake deep”, and “COMA”, this new track sheds light on a side of Brandy unseen by her audience.

Almondmilkhunni’s musical journey has been one of self-discovery and empowerment, transitioning from a barista in Philadelphia (where her namesake was born) to a nostalgic pop-princess whose releases encapsulate the meaning of “bad bitch energy”. Her fans, referred to as “Hunnis”, have rode along this journey with her, greeting every new song with excitement and fervor. The release of her upcoming album, Enjoy the Ride, is a huge accomplishment for Brandy, who feels she has finally come into her own sound and style as a songwriter and artist. Ones to Watch has dubbed her a “rising star” with “innovative, endorphin-rush-inducing music that speaks her mind and touches our hearts”, and her new track “playlist’ ‘ encapsulates just that.

Written alongside David Burris and Becca Krueger, “playlist” stands in contrast to her past releases, diving underneath Brandy’s bad-bitch persona to reveal a more introspective and sensitive side. The track opens with swirling synths and Brandy’s lustrous vocals as she takes a moment to reflect on the liars of her past and empty promises of her broken relationships. As a form of therapy, she sings of creating a playlist of songs that she hates for their superficiality and “fake shit”, in protest of all the times she’s been lied to. In a poetic turn, this playlist becomes one that she can’t turn off, proclaiming, “I made a playlist / of songs that I hated / Now I kinda crave it / Cause it reminds me of you.” The song builds with a cloud of percussion and soothing vocals as she talks of how her new love has saved her from the shallowness of the world around her. She expresses her gratitude for their loyalty, yet warns them of her hesitance to open herself fully, singing to them, “I hope you’re ok with the pace / Cause good things will come with a wait / I don’t always know what to say.” The bridge creates a meditative state, transporting the listener to a nostalgic and dream-like landscape. Ending with tranquil piano chords, this track envelops its audience in a feeling of absoluteness, and a universal encounter of utilizing music to come to terms with emotions.

After her recent signing at CAA under Jacqueline Reynolds-Drumm and Julie Greenberg for worldwide touring, Almondmilkhunni is about to embark on her first headlining shows this Fall in Los Angeles and New York. This is just the beginning for Almondmilkhunni, as she continues to show her listeners the many sides of truly being a bad bitch.
