Honeyboys New Song, “Grapevine,” Will Pollinate Your Ears and Spread the Love
26 JUNE 2020 (SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA, USA) – Honeyboys release their new song, “Grapevine,” today. This genre-blending single is about remaining hopeful during times of conflict and relationship troubles.
Vocalist Ari Eisenberg said that “the emotions in Grapevine speak to the desire of wanting to win someone back and recover joy. Ultimately though, this is a song meant to get listeners movin’ and groovin’ and leaving their troubles behind, at least for a little while.”
In the beginning of the chorus, the lyric “now I’m falling to the wayside, think I’ve lost my baseline” presents the challenge of loss.
“On a surface level, the song is about the stage of a relationship where everything you’ve taken for granted is being put into question,” said Guitarist Reese Gardner. “It’s not a breakup song, but it’s about the last glimmer of hope before you do or don’t. There’s this inherent sense of optimism underneath the darker lyrics because often that’s all it takes to restore a broken relationship.”
This multi-genre single, Honeyboys’ third release, shows the evolution of the band. Their first single, “I Just Wanna Know,” went to number one on Quadio Music Streaming Platform for college students and hit Spotify’s Discovery Weekly. A driving yet chill/jazzy anthem, “I Just Wanna Know.” Their second single, “YoYo,” a hip-hop-inspired pop dance song featuring Pavo Papi, is also about emotional turbulence but goes down smooth.
As their longest and most complex song yet, “Grapevine” took three months to record, arrange, mix, and master. The song has two parts. Grapevine Pt. I is a funk/hip-hop-influenced danceable pop song with a psychedelic, Beatles-esque bridge. Grapevine Pt. II starts as a more emotional, adagio-like tune with “Say how you feel” and transitions to a rousing Flea-inspired slapping bass line joined by horns that has the warmth and vitality of a “California Dream.” Guitar and keyboard solos drive Pt. II towards its dramatic, chantable conclusion.
“Grapevine” will be supported by a 1970s-inspired lyric video featuring over 80 fans and friends dancing from their homes during the pandemic. The music video will release on July 5th.
“Grapevine” shows Honeyboys’ virtuosity and ability to produce fun and musically layered songs during a COVID-19 interrupted first year in college. A dozen other original songs are in process for release this year.

Started by Cal Poly students in the fall of 2019, guitarist Reese Gardner and vocalist Ari Eisenberg met at a music production club and began recruiting other musicians.
