Exclusive Interview with Derek Skelton

How are you making out in 2021 with your music?

It’s going well! I’ve gotten the opportunity to work more with a number of great writers and I’ve made some good connections.

What has the difference been between 2020 Derek Skelton vs. 2021 Derek Skelton?

Definitely experience. My writing has gotten much better from doing it more and more and my studio sessions have also improved. It’s certainly a learning process but I feel like I’m continuously growing.

Is there anything or one that has contributed to the growth?

I think it’s just me maturing creatively. The more you do something, the better you get and I feel like that has contributed to my growth as a singer/songwriter.

What do you base your success on?

If I’m happy with the music I’m putting out and seeing other people enjoying it. I try not to compare my “success” with other peoples. I just do what I love and if it’s good enough it’ll all work out the way it’s supposed to!

How has the support of your fans kept you going?

It’s always great when people show their support and actively share my music. I love seeing fans who truly love what I’m doing. But even if I didn’t have the support that I have right now, I’d still keep going. My passion is to make music and to express myself through it and I could never stop doing that!

Any major news to share?

My newest single “Lost Time” releases July 2nd! It’s probably my favorite one so far and I’m super excited for everyone to hear it!

What do new fans need to stream RIGHT now of yours?

If you haven’t listened to my latest release “Island Girl” then definitely check it out! But stay tuned for my newest single. It’s a good one!

Where can they keep up with you going forward?

I’m the most active on Instagram and tiktok and you can follow me
