Salamanca, Spain, 7 September: Ras Neftali celebrates this summer a return to his reggae and dub roots with the release of a 5-track EP dedicated to the legendary Jah Shaka.
The new material, now available across all music streaming platforms, marks a return for the Venezuelan-born singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer to the global reggae and dub space following a series of urban music community projects in Salamanca, Spain.
The tribute to Jah Shaka was conceived in May of this year, following the passing of the sound system pioneer in April and released under Nefta Records. Consisting of five individual pieces, entitled Rasta Deh Yah Riddim, Kumbia Dub Riddim, Mercy Gone Dub, Everyman Have A Talent Dub and Praise Jah. Each track salutes a milestone in Shaka´s career, including his 1988 collaboration with Willie Williams, his Dub Salute 2 album and the iconic 2009 Dub Salute 7.
In addition to paying tribute to the man who served as inspiration for many across the reggae and dub scene, Neftali marks a return to reggae and dub production following a period working across the urban music space, producing under his second label, De Locos Records.
Neftali commented: “It’s important for me to pay tribute to the man who has inspired me so much on my own journey, not to mention everyone for whom dub is part of their lives. I hope that people enjoy the tribute to a great being of light who contributed so much to dub culture – bless up!”
Neftali will be returning to the stage this year to continue his work in the promotion of reggae and dub culture across Spain and Latin America. His tribute to Jah Shaka is now available across all music streaming platforms.
