Thank you for taking the time to have this interview with IMAAI.
Tell us about your music.
My music is a little bit of everything in a blender — pop vocals with a rock mentality. You get a touch of some R&B and hip-hop in there as well.
When did you start performing?
I started performing in high school with a band that I started with a bunch of my friends. I played drums and sang. We were a hard rock, heavy metal band. I started pursuing my solo career around 2007, recording a bunch of demos and pushing them to industry people. I didn’t play my first show as a solo artist until 2011 or 2012. Around then, I spent most of my time being a back up singer and drummer in a lot of different projects. I never really had this as a band it’s just always been me traveling with different musicians playing for me.
What do you consider to be your hometown and how does that affect your music?
My hometown is Hanover, Pennsylvania. I don’t feel that it affects me much. There are different genres around here; more so country and southern rock but I have a good solid fan base that supports me in my hometown.
What performers have been your inspiration?
I have three top performers that really inspire me as a singer-songwriter. One is Chester Bennington of Lincoln Park. I share a lot of deep similarities with him and the way he thinks, and his thoughts and views on certain subjects. Second, would be the Almighty Steve Perry of Journey. I just love his vocals. I studied a lot and practiced a lot as a kid singing Journey songs. With his technique. And lastly, the biggest influence into my pop sound, I’d have to say is Darren Hayes of the pop group from Australia Savage Garden. Just another great powerful vocalist. I practiced and studied his vocal technique with the songs and trying to do his different falsetto runs.
What do you base your success on?
I base my success on being very open and honest with myself and my views, pushing my vocals as far as I can in my songs, and making music that touches others. My music is based on a lot of different subjects that people can relate to and it hits them to their core. It’s up to me to help them make a new choice in their life or help them get through the hard times. That’s what I think is part of my success early on.
What was your latest musical release?
My latest release is my second single called “Gravity.” It is a very powerful song about domestic violence and going through the inner struggles of a relationship that not only addresses a female’s perspective, but also the male’s perspective. I want it to be known that males also go through these experiences, but are not as outspoken about the subject matter.
Do you have any news to share?
My new album, Hopeless Romantic, just came out on January 27 and it’s getting a lot of really good reviews and feedback. I have some tour opportunities coming in later this year and I’m also nominated for this year’s “Best Pop Artist” for the CPMAS Awards in PA.
