The band’s vocalist Brandon Kellum said of the track:
“When we started The Hostage Situation, it was a bridge from being teenagers to young adults. We wanted to do everything, and we wanted to do it all at once. Now, 18 years later, we got to reimagine what the band would sound like with a little time and perspective. It was important to me that we kept the heart of the band while amplifying the dynamics of our music that I feel are often missing from a lot of modern hardcore.”
**Band Biography**
The Hostage Situation is a mathcore band from Phoenix, AZ, consisting of members Brandon Kellum (vocals), Andy Marshall (guitars), Varay Porter (guitars), Ryan Glaus (bass), and Alex Zawadski (drums). Between 2006-2010, the band toured with acts such as The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, The Irish Front, Arsonists Get All The Girls, Antagonist, and The Baby Lottery.
After an extended hiatus, in 2017, The Hostage Situation began hosting an annual reunion show supporting local music-based nonprofits. The event has brought back MySpace era favorites such as Knights Of The Abyss, And The Hero Fails, Darkness Before Dawn, The Fair And Debonair, and A Step Ahead, raising almost $10,000 for the Arizona nonprofit organization Rosie’s House.
In 2024, The Hostage Situation broke an 18-year silence with the release of the incendiary new track “The Last Leg,” mixed and mastered by Kevin Antreassian (The Dillinger Escape Plan/The Sawtooth Grin). The explosive single blends the nostalgic sounds of early 2000s metallic metalcore with dynamic, harsh vocals delivered with a southern hardcore swagger. The result is a chaotic anthem that brings a refreshing twist to modern metal music.
