Stoner Mandolin: A melting pot of musical genres, all on a single instrument

Seattle, WA — The songs on Rob Blivion’s debut album Stoner Mandolin have been described as “beach bluegrass,” “dark folk,” “peaceful music,”  “eastern,” and “music to daydream by.”

Album opener “Oceans” is a mellow mandolin tune, with waves from the Pacific adding ambience. Standout track “Persia” is a blistering shred of middle eastern sounds played on the bouzouki, a traditional Irish instrument that’s like a cross between mandolin and guitar.

Rob Blivion plans to tour around the USA and internationally as a one-man show in support of the new album, which was released in March 2022.

“The mandolin and bouzouki have such a psychedelic vibe, it feels like I’m transported to another universe when playing them,” Rob said. “I think this album has a nice blend of influences from great American players like John Frusciante and Kirk Hammett to international virtuosos like Mdou Moctar, Khun Narin, or Ravi Shankar. Can’t wait to share it with everyone!”

Stoner Mandolin is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and everywhere else. Watch full video recordings of the songs on YouTube (www.youtube.com/thedanburylie).
