Thank you for taking the time to have this interview with IMAAI.
Tell us about your music.
Hello! Thanks for having me! My music is a blend of classical and electronic elements. Imagine a soundscape that combines the ethereal beauty of classical music with the modern, rhythmic elements of electronic music. My compositions often evoke a sense of hope, inner strength, and freedom, creating an uplifting and inspiring experience for listeners. It’s like being taken on a journey through different emotions and states of mind, all while being surrounded by lush, harmonious sounds. To this day, I have released 17 studio albums, each containing 10 original tracks. Listeners can listen to and download my music via my official website: www.sakisgouzonis.com/sakis-gouzonis-music/
When did you start performing?
I started performing music in 1995. Performing live holds immense significance for me. The flurry of positive emotions and thoughts that envelop me before, during, and after a live show is unparalleled. The thunderous applause from my audience injects an unbelievable surge of energy and excitement into my veins. To date, I have had the privilege of performing over 1,000 concerts across various cities and towns in Greece, and every single moment on stage is still incredibly thrilling. If it were possible, I would tour all year long. Even though I am an electronic music composer, I have a profound appreciation for real instruments, both on stage and in the studio. To me, being a musician means incorporating at least one real musical instrument into my performances and compositions. It adds a depth and authenticity to the music that simply cannot be replicated by computers alone. Incorporating live instruments allows me to connect more deeply with my music and my audience, creating a richer and more dynamic live experience.
What do you consider to be your hometown and how does that affect your music?
I live in Elassona, Greece. This city is a vibrant tapestry of diverse cultures and traditions, making it a fascinating place to live. Elassona’s rich blend of influences from both Western and Eastern cultures is beautifully reflected in its music scene, offering a delightful array of genres that cater to every musical preference. Despite this diversity, the majority of musicians here tend to focus on more traditional styles, which means electronic music is somewhat of a rarity. This uniqueness provides me, as an electronic musician, with a remarkable opportunity to carve out a niche and stand out. It’s a chance to introduce something fresh and innovative to an already dynamic musical landscape, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this creative evolution.
What performers have been your inspiration?
I’m deeply inspired by legendary electronic and film composers, such as Vangelis, James Horner, Jean-Michel Jarre, and John Williams. Vangelis was a pioneer in using electronic instruments to create orchestral-style music. His ability to blend electronic sounds with traditional orchestral elements was groundbreaking. James Horner was known for his innovative use of motifs, particularly those associated with Celtic music. Jean-Michel Jarre is famous for his large-scale outdoor concerts, which often feature elaborate laser shows, projections, and fireworks. The music of John Williams has transcended the films it accompanies, becoming part of the broader cultural lexicon. His compositions are performed by orchestras around the world and are beloved by fans of all ages.
What do you base your success on?
Success, to me, has always been about staying true to my creative vision. Authenticity, consistency and passion are just a few of the key elements that I believe have contributed to my success. I’ve always aimed to create music that resonates with my own emotions and experiences. When I stay genuine, my music connects on a deeper level with my audience. Releasing 17 studio albums means I’ve maintained a steady output of music. Consistency builds a loyal fan base and keeps them excited for what’s next. Ultimately, my passion for music drives everything I do. It keeps me motivated and inspired, even when challenges arise. It’s a combination of these factors that I believe has led to my success and allowed me to create music that people enjoy.
What was your latest musical release?
My latest release is True Hope (24 July 2024). It’s a collection of ten electronic music tracks that invites listeners to embark on a personal journey of introspection and upliftment. The inspiration for True Hope stems from the powerful concept of hope itself. I believe that hope plays a crucial role in psychological resilience and well-being. True Hope aims to evoke a sense of optimism and resilience, helping listeners cope with adversity and maintain a positive outlook. The music is designed to be uplifting and comforting, reflecting my belief in the transformative power of hope. Lastly, please share some final words with the fans.
As an musician, I pour my heart and soul into every creation. Each piece of music, each melody, is a part of my journey, a reflection of my experiences and emotions. Music has the incredible ability to connect us, heal us, and inspire us. Yet, the rise of online hate and harassment threatens this beautiful aspect of human culture. I share pieces of myself with the world, making myself vulnerable in the process. This vulnerability should be met with respect and appreciation, not with hate and malice. When I create, it’s not just for me, but for all of you. Imagine a world where every artist feels valued and supported. Positive reinforcement not only boosts our morale but also enhances our creativity, leading to even more extraordinary works of music. Each one of you has the power to make a difference. Instead of contributing to negativity, uplift us with kind words, constructive feedback, and genuine support. Celebrate our achievements and recognize the hard work we put into our craft. Music is a reflection of our humanity. By supporting and loving us, you are nurturing the very essence of what makes us human. Let’s choose to be a positive force. Spreading love instead of hate is not just beneficial for us artists; it’s beneficial for all of us. Let’s create a culture of kindness and appreciation.
