Pashibelle dives back into her roots with new single “Batu’u Pék”

On June 20, 2024, Pashibelle announced the release of her upcoming single, “Batu’u Pék”, which is currently available to pre-order and will be officially released on July 17th. This new single will be distributed worldwide by Tunecore.

Inspired by Cameroonian musicians such as the great Afro-Funk artist Manu Dibango from whom Michael Jackson and Rihanna borrowed the famous “Mamasay Mamasa Mamakusa” line—and the beautiful Grace Decca whom she’s always admired from childhood, Pashibelle is excited to share, for the first time, a song of hers that is more authentic to who she is.

“Batu’u Pék”, which means “all-powerful God” in Pashibelle’s dialect—’Bassa’a’, relates different phases of life guided by God and emphasizes on realizing how far we’ve come or improved by His Grace when looking at the past. According to Pashibelle, she wrote this song from personal experience.

Pashibelle had been working on this song since early 2023 and recorded it in Houston, Texas between Fall 2023 and Spring 2024. In her own words, “Batu’u Pék” is nothing like her previous songs as it’s a different music genre—Soul Makossa that embodies her cultural and rhythmic origin. Pashibelle hopes that her listeners will like this new work and vibe to it while looking forward to greater things.
