I was blown away by the breath of fresh air received from both the song and music video for “Good Ole Love,” by Kenny Black, Shimmer Johnson, and Stephen Wrench, and it made me want to hear it all day long even though I have never heard these gifted musicians before. That is a pretty-strong statement out of the gate, but some songs have that magic, and this is one of them. It does not matter who by, once you hear something good for the first time, and that is essentially my opening reaction to this smoldering hot love song.
“Good Ole Love” is the type of track that immediately speaks to all the senses, in a smooth jazz sort of way. But make no mistake, this R&B based track crosses over into whatever you call it as well, as it defies category in the process. It sways from the start by easing right into the male/female sparring vocals that never quit until the fade away in the electro spiced beat. I love how they both equally balance the melody of the song out with the excellent musical backdrop, and it is all produced with a next level precision quality.
This is a song about staying in or going out together as the years roll on, and how “Gool Ole Love” is the common ground to dreams coming true. The lyrics explain it all without any fuss and bother, as the words come out evenly but tend to feature Shimer Johnson to an enormous satisfaction to say the least. However, this takes nothing away from the overall presence of vocals the song carries as they swirl in and out of the arrangement. I am reminded of soul music of the 70s, more than anything else I can depict to describe it.

I miss this kind of thing where the soft duet is driven by s slow groove that burns away while the voices do the business to keep you hooked and the beats do the rest. But if I were not old school, I would still catch onto anything like “Good Ole Love” if I heard it. I have always had an ear for good soul music, so I would welcome it at any age. And the video only helped to keep me hooked, so I’m glad I watched it, as it too has its way of perpetuating for repeat viewings.
If you like music videos, this is really just to accompany the song and follow the lyrics running at the bottom of the screen, but the “Good Ole Love” video is a case of the more the marrier to please both listeners and viewers of good music content. What you get is a solid piece of music to a full-blown multimedia product with traveling and beach scenes. It comes highly recommended for all the above and particularly aims for the lovers of ballads with loads of and soul to spare, and anyone curious all the same. It harkens back to classier times.
