Eric Coomer’s New Album, “American Polemic” – A Musical Takedown of Trumpism and Chaos – Out October 18, 2024

Nashville, TN – Eric Coomer is set to release his new album, American Polemic, on October 18, 2024. This thought-provoking album critiques the current sociopolitical landscape and explores themes of chaos, disillusionment, and resilience.

American Polemic is the culmination of eight years of songwriting and represents Coomer’s most incendiary and controversial work to date. It features a rich and sometimes bizarre blend of musical elements, including post-punk, fuzz rock, West Coast thrash metal, a random trap hip-hop breakdown, operatic background vocals, a horn section, a Nigerian choir, and an orchestra, but always with pop sensibilities and a DIY aesthetic.

All of the music on the album was played or programmed by Coomer, but perhaps the most important “instrument” on the album is the boom box that provided the radio sounds that tie together the tracks and create a truly bizarre and wonderful radio show mix tape vibe.

The album features the following tracks:

1. Intro
2. Outrage Us
3. None of Them Are You
4. S-C-U-M Bag
5. The Fret Less Base
6. Everything’s Fine
7. Oldies But Goodies
8. Love is a Good Thing (Sheryl Crow cover)
9. These Days (R.E.M. cover)
10. At the Endaday
11. All is Not Lost

In “Outrage Us,” Coomer delivers sharp criticism of Donald Trump from his perspective, portraying him as a provocateur who thrives on chaos and outrage. The lyrics highlight how Trump’s tactics capitalize on division and anger, reflecting a society increasingly defined by conflict.

“The Fret Less Base” addresses the far right’s refusal to accept facts, questioning, “Who’s flying this thing?” Coomer poses a powerful metaphor: if everyone is aligned on either the left wing or the right wing, who is truly in control of the country? This theme underscores the confusion and dysfunction in contemporary political discourse, urging listeners to consider the broader implications of polarization.

Additionally, the album features powerful lines such as, “I’m a million different people, and none of them are you,” from “None of Them Are You,” expressing feelings of identity and isolation. The track “All is not lost; this place is not my home” encapsulates a message of hope amid chaos and disillusionment.

American Polemic includes sound bites from prominent political figures from both parties, commenting on the turmoil in contemporary politics caused by Trump. In addition, the track “S-C-U-M Bag” addresses the impact of unfounded allegations against another man also named Eric Coomer, which had severe consequences, including death threats and harassment directed that ruined that man’s life and some that were even mistakenly aimed at the musician Eric Coomer himself.

This album is not just a musical journey but a call for reflection on the current state of American society. American Polemic will be available everywhere music streams on Friday, October 18.
