Homesickness is experienced by everyone at some point in their lives. When a global pandemic stops you from seeing your friends and family for almost three years, you start to believe that maybe you will never actually make it back to your home country. ‘England’ is a reflection on how it felt to finally be returning home to English soil.

Emily Gray’s new single explores the pain of homesickness and the conflicting emotions that come with returning home after so many years. Originally from Ipswich, UK, Emily moved to Spain in 2019 believing that she’d be able to visit soon. Nobody could have predicted that we were about to be hit with a global pandemic that would change everything. It was the stuff of movies and nightmares, but soon became our collective reality. ‘England’ is scheduled for release on all platforms on the 9th September 2022. Set to be Emily’s sixth single, England combines harmonies, introspective lyrics and atmospheric soundscapes, making this Emily’s most ambitious release to date.
‘England’ starts with a melodic guitar part that brings to mind long roadtrips.

Emily takes us on a journey with her as the music builds to a crescendo and the chorus hits- her emotion is given an outlet through her belted vocal.
Produced by Felicity Hart, one half of Louisiana based music duo ‘Boy Coupon’, ‘England’ demonstrates the true extent of Felicity’s expertise, combining contemporary country with a hearty folky feel:

lyrics and not get in the way of the performance. I struggled a bit at first while I was trying to strike that balance, but once I put lap steel in the verse, it was clear which direction we should go; country music. Emily has been consistently growing and refining her musical style throughout her over ten years’ experience of writing and performing. After winning two singing competitions (The Voice of Suffolk, 2019 and The Honest Vocal Coach Singing Competition, 2020), Emily has developed a unique accent and vocal style which allow her emotions and personality to flow through her music. Her distinctive brit-folk/ singer-songwriter style enables listeners to recognise Emily’s music easily, and they’ve come to expect a combination of harmonies, powerful vocals and poetic lyrics.
