MARCH 1, 2021 — PITTSBURGH, PA
Two years after the release of the band’s first album “Dying Side of Life,” DisasterTheory is almost ready to release their second album “Destination Nowhere.”
The band credits the COVID-19 pandemic for the delay and says that they had to change the way they work, in order to get the album done.
DisasterTheory, a four-member metal band from the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania, has been around since 2019 and released their first album “Dying Side of Life” in May of 2019. Working on the new album amidst a pandemic was a little different.
Frontman Mark Thomas stated “we really had to rethink the way we did things. We couldn’t simply show up to rehearsals as usual and write, and we couldn’t ‘pop in’ to the studio to record tracks. We had to be morally responsible to the concerns of each band member and their families. An album just isn’t as important as the safety of the band members and their families.”
Over the course of a year, the band utilized social media, email, drive, and messenger technology to write, record, produce, mix and master the new album.
The year has not been one without hurdles and heartache. DisasterTheory lead guitarist Riley Harbarger experienced the loss of his father to COVID and it caused the pandemic to really hit home.
While “Destination Nowhere” is only the band’s second album, they have big plans for the fans, to make the wait worth it. The band has said that they plan to release a box set with the album that will include some DisasterTheory swag, the disc itself, and a book that will be full of stories, photos and guitar sheet music, and a guitar tab. “We really just want to give back to the fans that have supported us through, what must have seemed to them, a lot of downtime.” Thomas said.
While DisasterTheory has been keeping a pretty tight lip on most of the new 16 track album, they have been releasing sneak peeks on social media platforms like Instagram and Youtube. They’ve also set up various ways for fans to get even more exclusive peeks into the new album.
