Chris Weaver Band

Thank you for taking the time to have this interview with IMAAI.
Tell us about your music.
The Chris Weaver Band blends southern rock, blues, and country with classic rock and Americana influences. Our sound is all about raw energy, soulful vocals, and storytelling that resonates across generations. We take a lot of inspiration from the places we’ve traveled, like our collaborations with Brazilian artists, which bring a unique flair to our music. It’s honest and assertive and comes from a place of real-life experience.

When did you start performing?
I started performing seriously after I moved to Nashville in my early 20s. After forming the band, we hit the local circuit, playing in honky-tonks and small venues. Over time, the band built up a solid fan base, and we’ve had the opportunity to perform at some incredible places, from iconic Nashville venues to stages in Brazil, where we collaborated with country stars Fernando & Sorocaba. The band’s journey has constantly evolved, but it’s been driven by a deep love for live performance.

What do you consider to be your hometown and how does that affect your music?
Even though I’m originally from Grafton, West Virginia, I consider Nashville my hometown now. Nashville is where I cut my teeth as a musician, where my sound developed, and where the music community shaped who I am today. Nashville is a melting pot of different sounds—country, blues, rock—and that’s influenced our ability to blend genres in a way that feels natural and true to who we are as a band.

What performers have been your inspiration?
I’ve drawn a lot of inspiration from artists like Bob Seger, Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, Joe Cocker, and Billy Joel, to name a few, who are masters of blending heartfelt storytelling with powerful music. Their ability to connect with an audience through lyrics that feel personal yet universal is something I strive for. Working with artists like Fernando & Sorocaba has also shown me how collaboration can push your music in unexpected and exciting directions. The blend of American and Brazilian sounds has dramatically influenced my recent work.

What do you base your success on?
I base success on the connection we create with our audience. Whether it’s a large venue or a small, intimate show, we strive to make the audience feel something, whether it’s joy, nostalgia, or just the need to dance. If we do that, then we’ve done our job. Success isn’t always about the numbers; it’s about the impact we have on people, and that’s what keeps us going, but numbers help, too.

What was your latest musical release?
Our latest release, Softer Side, resulted from a songwriting collaboration with Eric Gunderson from Love and Theft. It was inspired by Brazilian Sertanejo music, particularly a track by Fernando & Sorocaba. We translated that inspiration into our style, blending southern rock with a Brazilian influence. Merging cultures and sounds has been a rewarding challenge, and we’re excited about how Softer Side reflects that.

Do you have any news to share?
Yes, we have an entire marketing campaign for Softer Side, including a music video we shot during our recording sessions at Castle Studios in Nashville. We’re also working on exciting collaborations with American and Brazilian artists, and fans can expect much more music soon.
