WIUS-FM, "88.3 The Dog," is Western Illinois University's award-winning, student-run radio station that is on the air 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. WIUS provides real-world experience in all aspects of radio broadcasting. Students have opportunities to do a variety of on-air jobs to train them for future radio careers. At WIUS, students are music DJs, sports talk show hosts, news announcers and public affairs reporters. Students also do live color and play-by-play for Western Illinois Leatherneck sporting events including football and men's and women's basketball. WIUS also gives students skills in radio station management and operations. Each year, the members of the broadcasting faculty choose several students to be on the WIUS head staff. Those students perform various management duties including program director, music director, promotions coordinator and sports director. Faculty adviser Dr. Roger Sadler supervises the WIUS head staff and on-air talent. WIUS has won numerous national and state awards over the years from various organizations including the National Broadcasting Society (NBS), the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) and the Illinois News Broadcasters Association (INBA).
