KXLU is a non-commercial, educational station broadcasting from the Westchester campus of Loyola Marymount University at an assigned carrier of 88.9 megahertz and an assigned radiating power of 3000 watts. Licensed to the Board of Trustees of Loyola Marymount University, KXLU is operated in the public interest by its student, faculty, and volunteer staff. As a member of the greater Los Angeles community, KXLU recognizes this area as its primary service audience and strives to serve the needs and interests of this community. As listener supported radio, KXLU offers a widely diverse and alternative programming schedule which includes the following genres: progressive and independent rock, classical, opera, world, electronic, metal, noise, jazz, punk, kids, oldies, psychedelic, and reggae as well as being home to one of the most successful and longest running Latin radio programs in the country, Alma Del Barrio. KXLU is committed to maintaining consistently high programming standards throughout its schedule by striving to give under represented artists and musical genres, who do not have a voice on the traditional mainstream circuit, an alternative and supportive forum in which to showcase their talent. The KXLU staff continually work to present musical diversity through continual reevaluation of programming standards, policies, formats, and goals. KXLU offers one of the only opportunities in the Los Angeles radio market for students to gain practical experience in all aspects of radio broadcasting. This experience extends to all areas of station operation: broadcasting, programming, technical engineering, production, public affairs, promotions, sales, and management.
