Amy Goloby Releases Sophomore Album “Back to New”
With the release of the “Back to New” LP, Amy Goloby brings a unique array of genres to the table. Lush with smooth progressions, an edgy but soulful vocal approach, and Americana undertones, the record boasts the aesthetic of acoustic pop anthems. Though the songs are diverse from one another, there is a glue that holds it all together much like a concept album would. Most importantly, the record never loses sight of the emotional platform great songs are built from.
The first single, “I Still Do”, grabs you with an immediately addictive groove and doesn’t let go. Complete with country style viola sections, loads of vocal hooks, and a heavy pop sensibility, the song seems to breathe and build as it plays on.
“People say ‘I do’ when they get married, but then they forget to keep loving each other after the wedding. In the midst of trials, it’s easy to forget why you loved that person to begin with. Some people give up on those vows, but love is a daily choice you make, and if we keep choosing to love our spouse even when we don’t feel like it, then we can save our marriages.” explains the songwriter of her single.
Although the single does speak volumes for the album, to get a real understanding of where Goloby is coming from, it should be heard in its entirety.
“This album is a mixture of love and faith songs. Even the love songs have an element of faith mixed into them. With “I Still Do,” it’s about making a choice to love our spouse and placing God in the center of our marriages. The God factor is not obvious in the song, but it’s an underlying theme throughout the album. If you listen closely to the lyrics in all of the songs, you can hear His name sprinkled throughout. The closer I get to my faith, the more it becomes a theme in my music” says Goloby of the songwriting approach for the record.
Amy Goloby always had a passion and love for music but it wasn’t until high school when she picked up a guitar and taught herself 3 chords that everything started to open up. Being a creatively active child, Goloby would write poetry and fictional stories throughout middle and high school. This made writing songs come almost naturally to her. Writing material throughout high school and college, the songwriter honed in on her sound and working with music as an outlet. Although the songwriting aspect really picked up through that time, Goloby was never really comfortable with her voice and hadn’t really shared the songs she’d written until her late 20’s when she took voice lessons and started taking things a bit more seriously. Getting plenty of positive feedback with her songs, she attended a performance conference called Shine with the Actors Models and Talents for Christ. It was there she discovered her first label Tate Music Group who signed her to a record release deal for her first album “Left Unsaid” released in January of 2015. “It was shortly after that she traveled to Nashville and became a member of Nashville Songwriters Association International where she learned how to better her music writing and found her second label, Aren Creative where she was signed to release the “Back To New” album. The songwriter is now a member of Folk Alliance International where she networks with and builds relationships with other folk artists by attending international conferences.
