SÖNŌRÉ

Thank you for taking the time to have this interview with IMAAI.
Tell us about your music.
My music is an intimate format in which I choose to share and sing my heart. Both sonically and lyrically, I explore themes of hope, love, loss, healing, and faith. It’s a journey that I hope resonates with listeners, inviting them to connect with their own emotions.

When did you start performing?
My musical journey began early—I was writing songs at ten and producing my own music by twelve. These formative years shaped my approach to storytelling through music. For a long time, our family—us kids—were only allowed to listen to Christian music. So, as mind-blowing as it may seem, I didn’t fully discover pop music until the age of 10. It truly inspired me to get serious about it and sparked my determination to write. The more I listened to the genres I wanted to sing, the better I became at writing. So yeah, it’s been quite some time.

What do you consider to be your hometown and how does that affect your music?
**Hamden, Connecticut** is where I called home. It’s the place where I grew up, made friends, and even dealt with a lot of family drama. It’s also the place where I was baptized, where I grew up, was taught in my faith, and the state I was born. So yeah, I think Connecticut will forever have an emotional attachment to me. It’s definitely left an indelible mark on my artistry. But I want to move somewhere warmer, far away from the cold. [laughs]

What performers have been your inspiration?
Britt Nicole: Undoubtedly, her undeniable talent commands respect. But beyond that, I hold her in high regard for the purity of the message she shares. The same applies to Alessia Cara, Logic, and Jax—they fearlessly address topics others shy away from, and I deeply respect their boldness and audacity.

Rachel Platten, Shawn Mendes, David Kushner, MAX, Jessica Baio, Charlie Puth, and Benson Boone have significantly influenced my songwriting approach. These artists possess a unique gift for storytelling through their music.

My vocal approach draws inspiration from a mix of different artists, including Colton Dixon, Alec Benjamin, Landry Cantrell, and Phil Wickham.

In the realm of production, artists and producers like Tommee Profitt, Livingston, John Michael Howell, Steve Rusch, JT Daly, and The Chainsmokers have left their mark on my creative process.

On a personal level, I aspire to collaborate with artists who have inspired me. The list includes YDE, Halsey, Jessica Baio, The Kid LAROI, Rachel Platten, Britt Nicole, Shawn Mendes, Becky G, Justin Bieber, Tori Kelly, Hollyn, TobyMac, Tasha Layton, Livingston, Macklemore, Faouzia, Benson Boone, Mabel, blackbear, Lawrence, Imagine Dragons, Grey, Lennon Stella, Robinson, Sofia Carson, Charlie Puth, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, Riley Clemmons, Hope Darst, Alessia Cara, JVKE, Zedd, Natalie Taylor, Connor Maynard, Lauv, Selena Gomez, Khalid, Madison Beer, Jax, Sarah Reeves and Alec Benjamin.

These artists have left an indelible mark on my musical journey, shaping my artistry and inspiring me to create meaningful music.

What do you base your success on?
Success, for me, lies in impact. If my music touches hearts, sparks conversations, offers solace, or even saves a life, I’ve achieved my purpose. That’s why I love making music. If it touches a heart, it’s absolutely worth it.

What was your latest musical release?
My upcoming project is a more personal to me than most. It’s a song about reconciliation and forgiveness. I also have to thank my amazing producer who has done an incredible job with the project.
