Acclaimed singer-songwriter Denise Marsa makes a powerful return with her latest release, the captivating single ‘Kiss Me in the Rain’ on the 22nd of March. This eagerly awaited track heralds the arrival of Marsa’s third studio album, ‘PIVOTAL’, scheduled to drop on June 14th via her own record label, KeyMedia Group.
The lead single from her upcoming album, ‘Kiss Me in the Rain’, emerges as a mesmerising fusion of dark allure and pulsating energy. Infused with haunting melodies and evocative, almost gothic undertones, the track seamlessly blends pop sensibilities with captivating dance-floor rhythms. Accompanying the release is the visually stunning music video for the third instalment in Marsa’s acclaimed series, ‘The Cowgirl & The Alien’.
Denise shares, “I remember the day I started writing ‘Kiss Me in the Rain’. It was summer, late June in 2022, and we all had been so isolated. I remember thinking, let’s celebrate connections, and being together and kissing, for me, is such a powerful way to express feelings of love and joy. I was envisioning – let’s get back to kissing…and loving, no matter where – even in the rain. Especially in the rain.”
Marsa releases ‘PIVOTAL’ on the 14th of June 2024, her first full-length album of new songs since 2012. Produced by herself alongside Janosch Roth, Anna Paulin, and Viktor Becker of Lautstumm Studios in Germany, ‘PIVOTAL’ represents a significant artistic milestone for the self-taught keyboardist and producer. Renowned British guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Paul A. Harvey lends his talents to the track ‘Dry Spell’ on the album, serving as co-producer. Marsa started writing the album in the fall of 2022 and believes it may be her most commercial success to date.
The self-taught keyboardist, singer-songwriter, and producer, known for her innovative blend of alt-indie pop, has been mixing music genres since first moving to New York City. As a composer who is not comfortable with boundaries and labels, Denise decided to start her very own label, KeyMedia Group. She released her debut solo album ‘Self’, which garnered strong reviews in several indie press outlets, including the now-defunct The Album Network. All Music described the album as “an extraordinary collection that showcases Denise Marsa’s songwriting skills. Some even compare her to Elton John, but with the added distinction that she is the songwriter herself.” In 2011, Marsa started writing her second album, ‘Live Forever’, with little promotion behind it. It garnered a New Mexico Music Award for Best Production (co-producer Andy Gabrys) and Songwriting for the song ‘Steady’. In 2022, Marsa started directing and producing her own music videos for her songs.
Denise Marsa’s musical journey is one defined by innovation and fearlessness. She has performed in various popular venues, including The Roxy and The Troubadour in Los Angeles, and Theatre Row in New York City. In 2017, she began working on her one-woman show ‘The Pass’, a recollection of her ongoing career, presented in vignettes and songs. Premiering in London at The Playground Theatre for two nights, ‘The Pass’ received glowing reviews. In 2021, ‘The Pass’ won the Best Concert Award from the United Solo Festival in New York.
With its bold sonic palette and poignant lyricism, ‘PIVOTAL’ promises to be a defining moment in Marsa’s storied career.
