VANCOUVER, BC, CANADA – FEBRUARY 1, 2024 – Hard rock-punk artists The Getmines announce the release of their third studio release, Gold, set to release on February 2, 2024 on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Youtube Music, and on Bandcamp for purchase. The first single from the EP, “Murder Podcast”, and its accompanying music video, were released in early January 2024.
The EP – the first from the Vancouver-based band in nearly three years – represents a departure from 2021’s Lookin’ Cool as the band sought to recapture some of the intensity and tone of its 2017 eponymous debut: “In a way, [Gold] is a bit of a spiritual successor to both of our two previous records in that we’ve tried to capture the raw energy and punk-rock focus of the first record, while coupling that with the big riffs and improved songcraft of the second,” says Dave Barroqueiro, guitarist and vocalist.
In the EP’s first single “Murder Podcast,” the band attacks true crime podcast trends in a two-minute punk rock banger. “Circa ‘84” cautions the listener against falling prey to nostalgia – “to remember only the good stuff, while ignoring the bad that went along with it,” says drummer Mike Kott. In “411 Monkeys” the band grapples with the broken promises that came with the arrival of the Information Age: “[social media] had so much promise to bring people together, but it’s kind of just evolved into a cesspool that does the opposite,” quips Cliff Thiessen, bassist and vocalist.
Gold is the second album The Getmines have recorded with producer Michael Kraushaar of Little Red Sounds in New Westminster, BC, Canada. Kraushaar, a veteran of numerous Canadian punk, rock and country bands, brings together his understanding of the band’s sound and style with an impeccable ear for a solid arrangement.
Gold is to be released as the first of two digital-only EPs out in early 2024 from The Getmines. Gold’s companion EP, Silver, is set to be released on March 31, 2024 via the same platforms. Vinyl LP Gold & Silver, combining the Gold and Silver EPs, follows later in the year.
The Getmines originally formed in Vancouver, BC, Canada in 2013 as a side project of Dave Barroqueiro and Cliff Thiessen to play afterhours gigs and house parties but evolved into a mainstay of BC’s underground scene where they are known for their energetic shows. The band will join juno-award winning headliners, ANCIIENTS, in the upcoming Electric Highway Festival, taking place at Dickens in Calgary, Alberta, Canada April 4-6, 2024.
