Thank you for taking the time to have this interview with IMAAI.
Tell us about your music.
Our music is a blend of many musical styles and influences. When writing a new song, we try to pull from our own life experiences and the experiences of people we know. We each bring our own unique viewpoint to the process.
If one of the group comes up with lyrics, the rest of the band is very open to all ideas. Then we get together and “take it to the barn”. The barn is what we call our practice room. We hash out the guitar, bass and drum parts with equal input from all of us. Our friend and collaborator Ian Denney also contributes to the songwriting process with the band.
Bettin’ On The Mule’s music is really an eclectic mixture of classic rock, southern rock and a little country. This combination is what we call “Hometown Rock”.
When did you start performing?
Each of us had been playing in various bands when we started as a five piece band under a different name about 7 years ago. We changed our name to Bettin’ On The Mule in 2018 eventually becoming a three piece band. Then in 2021 we added a fourth member to the band and that is the lineup.
What do you consider to be your hometown and how does that affect your music?
When we started playing together we practiced in two different towns. Rockmart, Georgia and Fairmount, Georgia. After some of the band members moved we have now been practicing in Rockmart mostly.
Every one here is very supportive of the band, especially our neighbors who hear every practice (Ha Ha). We love doing shows in the community both for profit and just volunteering our time to very worthy causes.
What performers have been your inspiration?
Each of us have our individual favorites. There are so many to choose from. Elvis, Joe Elliot from Def Leppard, Keith Richards, Eddie Van Halen, Bad Company, Blackberry Smoke, ZZ Top just to name a few.
What do you base your success on?
We owe a lot of our success on our fans’ support. They are awesome and we thank them for everything! They are with us every step of the way! Hard work and dedication is also key when it comes to playing music. You have to be able to put in the hours even when you do not feel like it. But the main reason for any success we have goes to God for blessing us with the musical talents we possess.
What was your latest musical release?
Our latest musical release is our EP titled “Tag Applied For”. This was our second cd and the songs were written during the COVID lockdowns. Unable to perform during that time, we wrote and practiced. Then after the lockdowns were lifted we recorded the EP and were ready to get out and perform!
Do you have any news to share?
We have recently release the debut of our official music video to our original song “Every Day and Every Night” on YouTube. It has garnered over 11K views already and we really appreciate the support!
We are also very excited to announce that will be releasing new music later this year and it is going to raise some eyebrows!!
