Reggae Artist Agrees to Terms of Major Distribution and Publishing Deal
On the heels of a 2012 Gold selling Interscope Records release, reggae artist “Melekel” has agreed to the terms of a major Distribution and Publishing deal.
As we are told by the artist’s representatives: “the Deal offers a more favorable scenario for the Panama born reggae vocalist and producer.” Unlike the previous “360” deal offered by Universal, which required the artist to surrender rights to most of the music and his brand, this Deal is one of epic proportions that will carry a positive ripple effect and surely energize an already exciting and thriving music genre.
Under the so called 360 deals, labels are prone to invest in increasing the value of an artist’s image in order to sell more merchandise and consequently sell more records. Due in part to the “New Age” digital revolution which has overtaken the business; many music industry insiders agree that it became imperative for labels to sign artist on the basis of their marketability, crossover appeal, and looks; still in most cases little if any attention is given to the quality and standard of the music content.
The terms of the Deal to which Melekel has agreed are an artful masterpiece, so to speak. It centers around the importance of the marketing and promotion of the art form. It offers the standard world wide digital distribution and the still most important in store distribution, augmented by Television, and Radio opportunities in addition to other indispensable amenities.
The Interscope Records 2012 gold selling single “Desperado” with its motto “Desperate times call for desperate measures” continues to eco around the four corners of the Earth’s Dancehall arena. “Desperado” and the mainstream follow up “Bedroom Champion” are both available on iTunes, google play, and all major digital music outlets.

An experienced musician with many years in the music industry, Melekel has toured with Grammy Award winner Jr “one blood” Reid in addition to headlining his own “In da hood” U.S. tour in 2011.
