Let’s do it. Let’s revisit this track after its release. I have had time with “Unscrew It” by majestic songwriter Larry Jay to let the simple messages play on my troubled mind, and with many, many listens I feel I can finally say I get it. “Unscrew It”, is presented as an off-the-cuff feel-good track of letting go and not dwelling on the negative on the surface. But, if there is anything I have learned from listening to Larry Jay’s colorful catalog of late, is he gets deep into the heart of an issue without the listener fully understanding they are having a life-changing epiphany while catching a groove to his tracks. “Go skinny dipping in the sea, make love out by a Joshua tree.” If you were to truly say you have had enough of the rat race and want to break free, these are pretty large inhibitions to overcome. The bohemian nature of Larry Jay’s music and storytelling coupled with the contemporary chord progressions and harmonies truly take the listener out of the new normal and offer them a true escape, allowing people to actually “Unscrew It.” OK, so I have been sitting on this track for a couple of weeks now. I have had the pleasure of reviewing “Unscrew It” before its public release, so how do I feel about it now? Well, after countless listens, I have found this track works very well in my summer playlists of music to drink to, or music to drive to, (obviously not at the same time). The up-tempo use of major chords gives this inspirational track a place alongside my Jimmy Buffet while at the same time the thought provoking melodies and rebellious undertones seats themselves with my Johnny Cash. Larry Jay offers a Dylanesque form of songwriting which with its folk undertones, country melodies, and pop vocals make this track enjoyable no matter the mood. “Unscrew It” is meant to be light hearted even though it carries massive symbolism, making this track entertaining and challenging still. The replayability of this soon-to-be pop hit will garner the attention it deserves.
So, “Let’s Do It, Let’s Do It, Why don’t we Unscrew It.”
