DISCOGRAPHY

I’ll Always be there with you.

This is a love song.

It is a song about life. From young love through marriage, children and health problems.

There are very few families that do not at some time in their life run into trouble. In many cases this trouble is of a medical nature.

Having experienced health problems and knowing families who suffered the same difficulties I also noticed that in many cases those looking after the person with the health problem suffer equally. This is reflected in the song.
I hope you like it.

Jenkinstown Bluebells

Jenkinstown Park is located just north of Kilkenny City in Ireland. It’s a beautiful place for walking on rugged tracks and having a picnic. Over the years many people have stayed here but two have inspired this song.

Thomas Moore the songwriter stayed here for a period during 1805. In his rambles he came across a rose in full bloom late in the year. This rose was called “Rosa Old Blush” Possibly influenced by the rose he wrote a beautiful song called “The last rose of summer”. However, the last lines are interesting “Oh who would inhabit this bleak world alone?” Is he suggesting suicide in such circumstances?

Two centuries later Singer/Songwriter Jimmy McCarthy came to live here. His song Bright Blue Rose say’s “it’s always been and so it goes. To ponder his death and his life eternally.” Perhaps he is suggesting that we put up with what life throws at us and our reward is in the next life.

Both are talking about the people of the planet. Jenkinstown Park is famous for its Bluebells which symbolise gratitude and humility. People perhaps?

The lyrics are written by Patrick Coughlan and the melody and performance by Mick Walsh.

Soul Not Gold

The song is inspired by three things:

  1. The description by Giles Tramlet in his book Ghosts of Spain of Saville, The Gipsy people, the ghetto they live in, La Tres Mil, and Flamenco music.
  2. A painting in Batik by a young Kilkenny artist of a Flamingo dancer.
  3. An exhibition during Kilkenny Ireland Arts week called Soul not Gold organised by young artists.
I bought the painting, and it inspired the song.

Head High Eyes Open

Anyone of us could get lost but we find our way back using a map or just asking direction. But what if our ideas deviate from what is considered the norm and we follow that idea only to find it’s not for us. it is not what we thought it was. How do we make our way back home?

This is very prevalent in teenagers and for them it might not mean they have left home physically. Returning to the norm can be embarrassing or maybe they feel they will be to “I told you so”

Head High Eyes Open is advice. Follow your dreams or your opinions but always remember that the big blue sky is over us all and it is what will bring you home.

Passer By

How many times do we see on our TV screens, or our computers reports of the horrors of wars, famine, economic deprivation, and the miss treatment of sections of society yet we do nothing about it. We are just Passer By’s. I am one of you.

The song is inspired by Paster Niemoller who lived in Germany during the Nazi period. He wrote his famous poem after the war in which he described how sections of society were attacked by the Nazi’s but he did nothing because he was not one of them. For example, he begins “First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.”

Later in a book he wrote “Thus, whenever I chance to meet a Jew known to me before, then, as a Christian, I cannot but tell him: ‘Dear Friend, I stand in front of you, but we cannot get together, for there is guilt between us. I have sinned and my people has sinned against thy people and against thyself.”

This song is about all of us.

Love Without Tolerance

Love, Trust and Tolerance words often confused. Can you really love if you have no tolerance?

Can you trust someone if you have no tolerance?

It is tolerance that makes the world work. It is the lack of tolerance that cause of all our problems.
