Casey Lyons, Chicagoland-based performer and writer is set to release his debut solo album In the Night on November 25, 2022. Lyons, who has been performing professionally since age 11, most notably in the first national tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies, uses his theatrical background to create songs that are story-driven, personal and encouraging. He mixes his influences of showtunes, singer-songwriter, pop and jazz to create an inviting and sincere sonic landscape. In The Night emphasizes Casey’s passion for creating a safe space for all forms of creativity. The title song of the album invites all listeners to share what they have with others, because you never know—it just might change the world.

“In the Night was an idea which came to me in the summer of 2021. I was working on my second original musical (one of the most exciting creative projects yet), writing songs on the back of tickets from my job at the Chicago Botanic Garden, and embarking on my senior year of high school. I’m so excited to share it with the world”, Lyons said.

Casey has been writing songs for as long as he can remember. He has written two original musicals, Limelight (2019) and Bars of Ivy (2021, co-written with Caroline Miller), and his love for writing for characters carries over into his love for writing solo songs.

According to Casey, “Writing an album is a daunting task, and it’s different from writing a musical in that you aren’t writing for characters, you are writing as yourself for your audience. Producing is a whole other game. I have never second guessed myself more than listening to these recordings. I’m very new to producing, so it was a fun challenge and definitely a learning experience.”

The record features several vocal collaborators including Caroline Miller on “The Ticket Booth”, Ella Beaubien on “I Wish (For a Change)” and Hannah Beil on “Safe Space”. In The Night also features Isabel Yang on violin and Matthew Huang on cello.

In addition to the album, Casey harnessed his passion for filmmaking, teaming up with Bob Burnidge and Caroline Miller to create a short film inspired by the tracks, which will premiere on YouTube at 7PM CDT on November 26, 2022. You can pre-save the album here: lnk.to/shinebright
